It's Not Emeril!

Whenever I say "BAM," someone inevitably thinks of one Food Network star throwing a salt concoction on a pork chop. No, no, no. BAM is the Brooklyn Academy of Music, which offers far more than training or auditory sounds. It's basically a compound of thoughtful and thought-provoking art in downtown Brooklyn (and walking distance to my apartment--thank you, Universe!).

This year's Next Wave Festival kicks off on September 21 and continues through the season until December 21. Executive director Joseph V. Melillo has assembled 16 music, dance and theater performances from the world over. And I am geeking out.

Performances from artistic luminaries--living and dead--include VOLLMOND from Pina Bausch's Tanztheater Wuppertal, BROOKLYN OMNIBUS by Stew and Heidi Rodewald, Sasha Waltz's GEZEITEN and the visual master Thomas Ostermeier's THE MARRIAGE OF MARIA BRAUN.

Bottom line: go.
